9/11/2016 - 9/11/2016

Time

10:00AM - 10:45AM

Location

The Moot Court Room (Level 2, room 006), School of Law, Main Site Tower, Queen’s University Belfast

Join QUB Law’s Professor Thérèse Murphy in conversation with Paul Hunt, Professor of Law at the University of Essex.

Professor Hunt was the first UN Special Rapporteur on the right to health, writing 30 or so pioneering reports on matters ranging from the World Trade Organization, to sexual and reproductive health. Prior to that, from 1999-2002, Hunt was a member of the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the treaty body responsible for the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights. More recently he has been working closely with the World Health Organization, advising it on human rights issues.

Our conversation with Professor Hunt will focus on his career in human rights. How did he get started? What led particular opportunities to open up for him? What challenges has he faced? What were the worst disappointments? How does he sustain a passion for human rights? And, what’s next for him?

You can choose to join the conversation on the day, or you can email your question in advance to Professor Thérèse Murphy, Director of QUBHRC’s Health and Human Rights Unit, who will then put your question to Professor Hunt: contact her at t.murphy@qub.ac.uk. In your email, please advise if you want Professor Murphy to use your name or not. She will aim to accommodate as many questions as possible.
