The student's workload per week is expected to be in the region of 36 hours, approximately 12 hours per module.
Two main types of classes are utilised by Law - lectures and tutorials. Lectures often serve as a general introduction to a topic. Tutorials, or small groups, involve the discussion of particular problems in more depth. Law has traditionally regarded attendance at tutorials as particularly important and non-attendance as a sign that a student's progress is causing problems. Guidelines are issued to members of staff to assist them in monitoring students' attendance at tutorials. Students who miss tutorials, whether or not attendance is a requirement for modular credit, will have this recorded by the lecturer in charge of the module and will be required to give an account of their non-attendance in accordance with the University’s Student At Risk policy. A timetable of lectures and tutorials is issued at the beginning of the academic year. Lectures and the majority of tutorials, will normally be held in the central teaching facility on the main University campus.Students must go to the tutorial group they sign up to and commence each semester in.
