The Student Progress Committee (SPC) (Law) meets after every examination board to discuss students whose progress appears to be unsatisfactory at any stage of their studies or who are absent from examinations for a reason not approved by the School. The students in question may be invited to attend the SPC; the objective of the meeting is to determine the cause underlying poor performance or absence and to facilitate the student’s successful passage through the degree programme. Students who fail an assessment at the second attempt will have their cases considered by the SPC which, in the case of persistent failure of modules, has power to require the student to withdraw from the University.
Attempts to gain credit in a module are limited to three after which a substitute module must be taken; the student will be limited to a mark of 40% for this substitute module (Absence will be counted as an attempt, unless a relevant medical certificate is provided).
