LLM International Business Law

This programme is designed to help you set the legal and regulatory regimes around international business and the global economy in the context of broader legal and socio-legal study skills. The LLM will prepare you for a career in the commercial sector, in business, government or in NGOs. You will be proficient in thinking about business on a global scale and the place of law, compliance, corporate social responsibility and trade in our societies.

The programme is open to applicants with a 2.1 or equivalent in Law or a cognate discipline (such as politics, geography, history, sociology, planning or management and finance). If you do not meet these criteria but have two years of relevant work experience or have completed a Masters elsewhere, you may also be eligible for admission.




Law of International Business Transactions
Approaching law’s role in the global economy, focused in international  governance, global trade and international commercial law.

Issues in Corporate Governance
Develops a socio-legal approach to the governance of large global concerns. Perspectives on the UK’s regulatory regime, on issues around board structures and corporate social responsibility.

World Trade Law

Assesses the legal rules relating to international trade in goods and services and how these impact on various regimes worldwide.

Spring (choice of 2)

EU Law and Economic Integration
Current themes in European and transnational legal studies from substantive perspectives, including the legal frameworks of EU economic integration, regulatory approaches to economic integration and external trade policies.

Business and Human Rights

Explores work on business and human rights and corporate citizenship, specifically with regard to global corporations and global supply chains.

Copyright in the Digital Environment
Provides students with the opportunity to explore critically the various policy and doctrinal aspects of contemporary copyright issues as they impact the creation, dissemination and use of creative and cultural goods within the digital environment.

International Financial Law

Offers students an introduction to the law of financial transactions and the regulation of financial institutions in Europe and the US. In doing so, it examines the structure of financial systems, their risks, and the role of the law in regulating them.

White-Collar and Corporate Crime

Focuses on crimes committed within the commercial and business environment. It will familiarise students with the individual and organisational dimensions of business crime.

Making Medical Technologies

Familiarises students with legal frameworks relating to research and development of medical technologies and key debates in the area. The module will focus on the way in which legal frameworks interact with and govern medico-technological developments and practice.

Marketing Medical Technologies

Explores the legal frameworks relating to the marketing of medical technologies and key debates in the area. The module will focus on the way in which legal frameworks interact with and govern the marketing of medico-technological products.

Digital Citizenship and the Regulation of Data

Focuses on how law interacts with and governs technological change, practices of privacy, and with the fluid boundaries of the public sphere.

Global Justice and International Economic Law

Focuses on explaining, justifying and criticising the legal and political rules and institutions of the global economy.

Comparative Competition Law

Explores the internationalisation of competition law in the context of globalisation and international trade with a particular focus on EU competition law as a leading model.
