Undergraduate Scholarships

The School has a number of scholarships and awards available to undergraduate students.  These include:

The A&O Shearman Prize

The A&O Shearman Prize is awarded to the student who achieves the highest overall mark in the Company Law and Corporate Governance module.

The Arthur Cox Prize

The Arthur Cox Prize is awarded to a student with the highest mark in Contract Law.

Brickfield Exceptional Student Scholarship

Awarded to the undergraduate student who joins the School in Year 3 from BAC with the highest average grades (Year 1 and 2) gained at BAC.

Brickfield Travel Studentship

Awarded to undergraduate Brickfield student with highest marks entering Year 2. 

Cost of two return economy flights to Malaysia

CAJ Prize

The prize will be awarded to the undergraduate student who submits the highest marked essay on an aspect of civil liberties. Essays should be submitted to v.pavelkova@qub.ac.uk by Friday 5th July 2024 at 4pm.

The Claire Palley Undergraduate Award for Gender and the Law

The award will recognise the best essay or dissertation written by an undergraduate student of any level in the area of gender and the law. Essays should be submitted to v.pavelkova@qub.ac.uk by Friday 5th July 2024 at 4pm.

The Carson McDowell LLB Foundation Scholarship

The Scholarship will be awarded to the undergraduate student with the highest overall average mark in Year 1 of the LLB programme.

The D.J. Hill Prize

The prize will be awarded to the undergraduate student who submits the highest marked essay in the field of commercial law. Essays should be submitted to v.pavelkova@qub.ac.uk by Friday 5th July 2024 at 4pm.

The Eversheds Sutherland Prize

Awarded to the Law LLB student who achieves the highest overall mark in EU Law module.

Foundation Scholarships Year 1

These scholarships are awarded to the top 3 performing undergraduate students in Year 1 of LLB UG degree.

£200 each

Foundation Scholarships Year 2

These scholarships are awarded to the top 3 performing students in Year 2 of LLB UG degree.

£200 each

The Glendowan Award

The purpose of the award is to support one student per academic year to engage in a Summer Work Experience/Placement/Internship or Conference opportunity (the latter must be on a legal theme) outside of Northern Ireland relating to study.

Students can apply in the second semester of their second year via an online application form.

To be eligible for this award, students must have a declared household income below the minimum published threshold to determine eligibility for a full grant, as assessed by Student Finance NI, (hereafter referred to as “the threshold”) or have completed the Pathway Opportunity Programme or Senior Academy Programme before beginning their studies at Queen’s.

The Gerard Duffy Scholarship 

Two scholarships will be awarded within the School of Law. The scholarships will be awarded to the students with the highest mark on average across all modules upon completion of Year 1 assessments of the Law (LLB Hons) and Law (Major) with French or Spanish LLB respectively.

To be eligible for this award, students must have a declared household income below the minimum published threshold to determine eligibility for a full grant, as assessed by Student Finance NI, (hereafter referred to as “the threshold”) or have completed the Pathway Opportunity Programme or Senior Academy Programme before beginning their studies at Queen’s.

The Herbert Smith Freehills Prize

The prize will be awarded to the student who achieves the highest overall mark in the ‘Careers and Placement’ module of the LLB undergraduate programme.

The JMK Solicitors Prize

The JMK Solicitors Prize is awarded to the undergraduate student who achieves the highest overall mark in the Tort Law module.

Law Fund Bursary (LA Externship)

This prize is awarded to one 3rd year undergraduate student with the highest average programme mark.

Law Centre NI Prize

Awarded to the student who achieves the highest mark in the Clinical Placement module, delivered by Law Centre NI.

Law Society Prize

The prize is awarded to the undergraduate student with the highest mark in the Dissertation modules LAW3001 Research Project A or LAW3041 Research Project B.

Lady Chief Justice Prize

The prize is awarded to the undergraduate student with the highest mark in the Rights and Accountability module.

Lord Lowry Prize Year 2

This prize is awarded to the undergraduate student with the highest average mark in Level 2 assessments.

Lord Lowry Prize Year 3

This prize is awarded to the undergraduate student with the highest average mark in Level 3 assessments.

McKane Medal  

The medal is awarded to the final year undergraduate student with the highest overall average over three years of their LLB Single Hons degree programme.

Oxford University Press Law Prize

This prize is awarded to the undergraduate Single Hons student with the highest overall average across the three levels of study.

Rory Conaghan Prize and Cup

The prize is awarded to the undergraduate student with the highest mark in the Evidence module.

Senior Status Excellence Scholarship

The scholarship will be awarded annually to one student who has completed first year and is progressing onto year two of the LLB Senior Status programme.

Students must apply for the scholarship by submitting to the School of Law a vlog of no longer than three minutes setting out their extra-curricular achievements in year one of the programme.

Stanley Maurice Austin Memorial Prize

The prize is awarded to the undergraduate student who submits the highest marked essay on a topic of constitutional law, public international law or private international law as selected by the School. Essays should be submitted to v.pavelkova@qub.ac.uk by Friday 5th July 2024 at 4pm.

Student Carer Prize

Awarded to the student with the highest overall mark for Level 2 modules in any Law undergraduate programme, who has identified themselves via an application process as having caring responsibilities

Sweet & Maxwell Prize

This prize is awarded to the undergraduate student  with the highest average mark at Level 3.

£150 book token direct from sponsor

William Staunton Memorial Prize

This prize is awarded to the undergraduate student with the best overall mark in Criminal Law module LAW1025.

Wilson Nesbitt Prize

This prize is awarded to the undergraduate student who achieves the highest average mark at Level 2 of the LLB programme.
